“I took part in Kickstart (Discover a Happier You) in September/October 2018, during a period of emotional turmoil born from culminating childhood issues and self-destructive mental attitudes. When I first began the course, my goal was simply not to feel miserable and suffering every day, and not to continue to hurt myself and those I love through unhealthy coping habits and emotional outbursts. I can honestly say that the course allowed me to meet that goal and surpass it beyond what I thought possible. Not only has my overall mood improved and stabilised to the point I’ve rediscovered motivation and joy that I hadn’t felt in years, but I am also no longer in fear of negatively impacting myself and others because I’m much better at understanding and expressing my emotions in healthy and constructive ways.  I hardly recognise myself now – in the best way possible.

While I can’t say that the course was easy or fun, it was undoubtably effective, and conducted by an organiser (Hayley) who is excellent at developing a safe, judgement-free environment for you to work through your problems. It helped me deal with those issues that I was aware of (for example, explosive and unexplained anger at small or mundane inconveniences) but didn’t know how to resolve, as well as helping unearth and resolve new problems which otherwise would have continued to lurk and affect my happiness and behaviour (such as my tendency to set unattainable goals and then beat myself up when I inevitably failed).

The wholistic view of the course meant that I developed skills to constructively experience and express my emotions in the moment they arise, while also improving my understanding of where they stem from, how my past (and unresolved issues) impact their intensity and what I can do to heal from the experiences of my past. These skills not only helped me through that rough period but will continue to help me for the rest of my life, so that I can prevent future downward spirals, the build up of emotional detritus, and slipping into unhealthy coping mechanisms.

The balance in the course of scientific background and application of skills meant that it wasn’t just a ‘black box’ of instructions. I understand the process to go through to treat my problems at their source as well as their symptoms, and why the process works the way it does. Integral to this process was the continuous support of Hayley, who facilitated that work through gentle and kind guidance, allowing me to work through hard-to-face problems at my own pace and in my own way.

To anyone suffering from emotional turmoil, swings, and unexplained outbursts, or even a general low mood or depression, I would thoroughly recommend this course. It helped me rediscover areas of myself I’d forgotten existed, realise I could be happier than I ever thought possible, and learn to deal with my emotions in a healthy and integrated manner.”

“At 43 year old and having had many years of back problems along with every treatment (chiropractor, physio, accupuncture, MRI, cortizone injections, massage, cupping) all with mixed, expensive, largely failed results. One even slipped a disc for me crippling me for two months with a paralized leg. I had given up on any further treatment and was willing to live with a level of pain I could treat with painkillers and limited physical exertion.  However I met Hayley and got to know her and I found out more about the treatment she offered – not actually touching my back was a bonus. She gives perspective to areas where your judgement might be clouded due to misconceived beliefs or previous experiences, provides a gentle hand to focus you on areas that your might be neglecting consciously or unconsciously and draws on a wealth of experience to provide a path through the darkness to a satisfying and positive resolution of the issue.

Hayley leads meditations with an expert hand, guiding you in an accessible and focused way, with little area for confusion or loss of concentration. She gives a space and atmosphere that allow you to open up through the meditation, even if you lack previous experience or hold feelings of doubt or nervousness.

While the meditation usually has a specific purpose, it doesn’t have to follow a prescribed path. The journey is taken by you, in your own direction and at your pace, with Hayley guiding and focusing you where you need it. This might mean that the focus is not where you expected it to be, but it is where you need it, and this flexibility is a powerful tool for getting to the crux of issues that would otherwise be clouded by previous expectations, beliefs, or fears.”
